Trees and birds, sky of blue
Flying high- I saw him fly too.
With a crown placed upon him like the sun
And it shined- I had to cover up my eyes
Does he know? Has he seen the things I’ve done?
Clutching to a bottle
It was filled with something purple
I could not control the thoughts that
Danced like monkeys in my head.
Then a man approached me
There was blood upon his fingers and
He led me to a doorway where
He pointed to a bed.
But now you’re here. You stand beside me like a brother
In your red t-shirt and jeans.
But your crown shines so brightly that it’s burning up my eyes…
Have you seen the things I’ve seen?
Were you at the at the orgy
It was filled with naked children
They were dancing in a circle
Just like monkeys in a cave
Looking at my hands again
I can’t stop them from shaking
I don’t want to close my eyes and see
The shadow of a grave.
Were you there when I drank the rainbow bottle?
Did you watch me drag my feet across the floor?
Could you see the drugs were swirling up my mind?
It wasn’t me, the man who opened up that door.
You put your arm around me now
I’m squinting in the sunlight and
You lift the crown from your head and
You lay it onto mine.
Every little memory is coming back with clarity
Burning like an acid through the hollers of my mind.
And I’ll fall because i cannot stop from shaking
And I’ll clutch like a monkey at your knees
And I’ll burn because I know I was mistaken
And yet still I walked to touch the rainbow tree.
Fluffy clouds, sky of blue
Save this man- I am your son too.
Silver he was,
With skin like a razor blade.
Thin as a blade
Was the shadow his body made.
Stretched out and flat
On the grass
Was the Love we made,
Oh, so long ago.
Silver and flat
Were his eyes when he gazed at me.
Gazing through moonlight,
And deep summer haze at me,
Stroking my fingers
And whispering ways to me,
Oh, so long ago.
Writing me letters in blood
On green blades of grass
Carried to me by bluebirds
Through a fairy pass
Into the glen
Where I slept ‘neath a mushroom cap
Oh, so long ago.
Love, Love
that was what he was to me.
Stitched in red letters
on pink fuzz for only me.
Dreaming next summer
blue ribbons would tie him to me,
eternally.
Once a bouquet of wild flowers
He gave to me,
Daffy-down dillies, and clovers and daisies,
Attached to a note,
Said “I’m going to war for a year.”
Signed with a tear.
Soldier he was
Whenever his way was paid.
Robert E. Lee
Knew that fairies are strong and brave.
Paid them with tin-foil, and buttons,
And ribbons of grey,
One for each day.
Brave he was,
With hands like two razorblades,
Slicing and spinning
Through fields where the Yankees lay,
Finally falling
From the sound of a cannon too near,
Next to his ear.
Brought back to me
On a coffin of Elder twigs,
Covered in daisies, wild Roses and Holly sprigs,
Wrapped in a pink flag,
With two hearts stitched next to a moon,
Meant for next June.
His face was uncovered,
So I could say bye to him,
Moonlight shone crazily
Over his silver skin.
Bluebirds traced hearts
In the breast of the sky
For my Thame,
That was his name.
Why, why, why did Thame die for me,
Slowly drift up to the clouds
and the sky for me,
Carving up rainbows,
To build me a home in the air,
When I’m down here?
Some, some, some day I’ll find him,
I’ll cut off two pieces of Ivy to bind him,
The silver skinned fairy
who died in a war fought for men,
Will live again.
Ruby moon in the sky- please don’t upset me
Ruby foot upon the ground- you’ll never get me
You are the sort of man I like to
You are the sort of man I like to…
Ruffle my wings, you wake me from my slumber.
I smile to see you there, my little rumbler
You are the sort of man I like to
You are the sort of man I like to spy.
You know we all came here to fly, and I…
I like to fly through trees and search for those to kill
Find you I will.
A dark moon in the sky- you’ll never see me
I’m right behind you, dear, in case you need me
You are the sort of man I like to
You are the sort of man I like to…
You feel my wing it wraps around your shoulders
You press your body tight against the boulder
You are the sort of man I like to
You are the sort of man I like to spy.
You know we all came here to fly, and I…
I like to fly through trees and search for those to kill
Find you I will.
I close my eyes and press my ruby lips upon your face
I close my eyes and now we’re gone,
Gone, gone, gone, gone to a special place
Some say that we can never know the reasons why
But I believe we came on earth to fly and I…
I like to fly through trees and search for those to kill
Find you I will.
The Red Door (from the Pine Fairy)
Bye bye to broken trees that kept me from the storm
Branches safe and warm
Goodbye to leaves and sky
Bye bye to solid stones that pressed me to the ground
It was there I heard the sound
I thought the earth was burning, I
Started pushing through the trees and
Through the sticky arms of reason
When all this time I knew I needed something
Goodbye it’s time to go and touch the fire from down below
I see the red door opening now follow follow
Goodbye no time to cry no time to think or wonder why
I see the red door opening now follow follow
Bye bye to baby birds who sang to me in breeze
You taught me what was feasible
Between the earth and sky
Singing to me as I slept upon the forest floor
It was there I found a door
Beneath the gold pine needles, I
Started burning with a fever
Shaking like a true believer
When all this time I knew I needed something
Goodbye it’s time to go and touch the fire from down below
I see the red door opening now follow follow
Goodbye no time to cry no think or wonder why
I see the red door opening now follow follow
My friend we meet again
It’s no beginning nor the end
It’s just a step outside of everything that matters
One step outside of the home
Into the middle of the bone
Where all reddest blood is grown and splattered splattered
Push through all the trees don’t never listen what they say
You know they’ll hate you anyway
And yet their day is coming
Tip tap the fire until it rises like a plume
Then you’ll feel the tongues consume
Just like you’re running running
Spinning fast I wasn’t only
Burning up among the lonely
When all this time I knew I needed something
Goodbye it’s time to go and touch the fire from down below
I see the red door opening now follow follow
Goodbye no time to cry no time to think or wonder why
I see the red door opening now follow follow
The sky it will fill with red
Water pours over our head
As our voices rise up and they mingle with those of the dead.
The sun watches from far away
Today will be his longest day
As we line up his sons and he watches us blow them away.
Follow me, crowds
Hear the screams so loud
Pouring like blood from the mouths of the proud.
“Red Rum!” we cry
Red Rum, we are willing to die
But promise us an eye for an eye.
Red blood you’ll flow
Through the streets of the world I know
But today don’t ask for me to go.
The sky it will fill with cries
Water pours into our eyes
As we raise up our voices and scream “Down with their lies!”
The flags how they shriek and fly
I gaze over my shoulder into your eye
And every five seconds I tell you goodbye.
Because I know death
He was there on the street where we met
And the way that he watched I knew he wouldn’t forget.
“Red Rum!” I cry
Red Rum, I am willing to die
But I need you to promise an eye for an eye.
There will be no more tears for now
Nobody knows what we have lost anyhow
We will not look back, the past is a fading cloud.
We’ll line them up against the wall
Today it will be the proud ones who fall
Ready and fire; we won’t falter at all.
Because we know pain
Falling down all around us like rain
And we never forget who to blame.
“Red Rum!” we cry
Red Rum, we are willing to die
But promise us an eye for an eye.
You was walking around in blue jeans
Blue jeans and long hair
You was talking to the friends and ladies
You was drinking beer.
You was laughing and slapping backs
You was wearing brown boots
I kept my eyes on my fingernails,
but my secret eye was on you.
You’re a man, you’re a real real man
and I’m just some crazy girl
But I’m gonna ride you gonna
ride you ride you out of this world.
I was the one and only lady
in a crowded bustling place.
Someone else might have felt like a queen,
I just felt out of place.
Glasses were clinking everywhere;
jokes were being told.
I felt like a carrot in a sea of rabbits.
I felt like a joke.
I was drowning in a sea of friends;
getting sucked down into the whirl.
But I’m gonna ride you gonna
ride you ride you out of this world.
You was standing like a tall green stallion;
I was lonesome and forlorn.
You had money, you owned the world;
I was lonesome and forlorn.
You told your friends I was crazy in a good way;
that ain’t fair and that ain’t true.
I just believe in myself man;
and I’m wishing to believe in you.
Cause there’s things I wanna show you man-
there’s places to explore.
Yeah, I’m gonna ride you
ride you ride you out of this world.
Your hand crept around my waist;
it felt good to me.
But I didn’t want to be in this place;
I wanted to leave.
You were smart; the toast of the town;
I was a plastic pink rabbit on a shelf.
Men would pick me up and fiddle with me
and tumble me back on the shelf
You were rooted to the ground
like a palm tree in the storm.
But I’m gonna ride you
ride you ride you out of this world.
If you think I’m thinkin bout what you think of me,
well baby I ain’t.
If you think I’m thinking that I’m something great,
believe me I ain’t.
Watching you from across the room
I get an inkling of who I am.
I ain’t here to be your woman;
I want you to be my man.
Stop man don’t walk out the door
like I’m just some crazy girl
Cause I’m gonna ride you
ride you ride you out of this world.
Let’s do an experiment man
I’ll tell you what I see.
Take off your clothes piece by piece
I’ll tell you what I see.
Take off your shirt man,
so I can feel your arms.
I got to touch them with my hands,
I got to feel your arms.
Cause a man’s body is full of muscles
but no one knows what for.
Yeah, I’m gonna ride you
ride you ride you out of this world.
I was riding on my horse one cold and snowy night,
The air was tinged with whiteness and the road was gone from sight,
I pulled in on the rains to take deep breath of the night,
My vision looped the planet in a perfect circle quite.
God gave birth to man and then man gave birth to desire.
Come on, man, and plunge your torch into my ring of fire!
What’s behind the curtain when the final act has closed?
What do I keep hidden underneath my Sunday clothes?
Babe, I know the rules, know I’m bound to lose,
Cause I refuse to give my love to just one man.
My eyes are so wide open that my hands can’t even feel,
I’m bareback on my horse, and yet, my body’s draped in steel,
My eyes are so wide open that I can t say whats for real,
The world is draped in men, and yet, my heart’s afraid to feel.
When the snow is melted down, I will ride into the town,
I’ll polish up my boots, and then I’ll have a look around;
My horse is called imagination; he’s restless in his hoofs;
My sword is called the truth, and man, it’s pining bad for you.
God gave birth to man, and then man gave birth to desire.
Come on, man, and plunge your torch into my ring of fire!
What’s behind the curtain when the final act has closed?
What do I keep hidden underneath my Sunday clothes?
Babe, I know the rules, know I’m bound to lose,
Cause I refuse to give my love to just one man.
Rose Fairy in the city streets
Tip-toeing through a world of grey.
With all the noise and the pageantry
Not a soul will ever look her way.
Newspaper in the dusty wind
Blowing words into your eyes
The grey grid of the city streets
Carving words into the skies.
If I couldn’t see you,
Would your blue eye be around?
If I couldn’t feel you,
Would your hand be reaching down?
Pigeon-toed in the afternoon
Where the Sun will set no one can say.
Shadows fall from the buildings tall
Layering more grey upon the grey.
Green tree in the city park.
You see that tree, you want to rise.
Business man in the alley-way,
You see that man, you want to fly.
If I couldn’t see you,
Would your blue eye be around?
If I couldn’t feel you,
Would your hand be reaching down?
You don’t talk and you cannot hear
A wicked wind is swirling ’round your mind.
Cars race through the dimming streets
Do you think they’re leaving you behind?
You, you start to speak,
You start to speak and you’ll be mine.
If Heaven blows us a wicked wind
And you start to fall, you will be fine.
If I couldn’t see you,
Would your blue eye be around?
If I couldn’t feel you,
Would your hand be reaching down?
The Sun sinks and the buildings rise
But at least you’ve finished up your day.
Eating buns from the city streets,
Not a soul could ever live that way.
Rose Fairy in the city streets
You blow that wind, she’ll start to fly.
The grey grid of the city streets,
If it brought her low, it can lift her high!
If I couldn’t see you,
Would your blue eye be around?
If I couldn’t feel you,
Would your hand be reaching down?
Twenty naked shadows upon my wall;
Left there by the suitors inside my hall.
You run away, you run away,
You run away, you run away.
Curly haired and twisted, you noble lad;
Touch me like the father I never had.
You run away, you run away,
You run away, you run away.
Secret book the color of the sky-
Slide it like a paper beneath your thigh.
You run away, you run away,
You run away, you run away.
Lillies bow like maidens, in the field I wait for you.
Sitting there with roses, like a child I wait for you.
Sky upon my shoulders, like a god I wait for you.
Petals fall around me, like a ghost I wait for you
I wait for you, I wait for you.
Twenty thousand soldiers is what you see.
You are bound by leather, but not to me.
You run away, you run away,
You run away, you run away.
Now that you’re gone, and I’m left behind with my twenty-four lions of stone,
Now that you’re gone, and I’m left behind with my power and a heart of stone.
When I met you, I fed you poison, but you blocked it with your shield;
I was knocked out with admiration that my power had been repealed,
And I fell to my knees and I fell to the floor like a child at the sound of a gun,
But when you came at me with your long, long sword you know it really kind of turned me on.
Run rabbit run, run away to find the hidden link of you,
Run rabbit run, run away to find the piece of sky that covers you
From the sun. Run rabbit run.
I asked you to come to my bed so we could learn to trust one another.
You were strong, enveloping, courageous as a mother,
But your world is so so far away, I don’t think I could touch it at all;
Already I’ve fallen down between your legs, and that’s a long long way to fall.
Run rabbit run, run away to find the hidden link of you,
Run rabbit run, run away to find the piece of sky that covers you
From the sun. Run rabbit run.
Man, oh man, with my hand on your chest,
Son of Adam, I will grant you one request,
If you wish my spell to be removed, tomorrow you won’t feel me at all,
Already I’ve fallen in the eyes of God, and that’s a long long way to fall.
Run rabbit run, run away to find the hidden link of you,
Run rabbit run, run away to find the piece of sky that covers you
From the sun. Run rabbit run.
You filled my mind up with gold
Until my mind I gave away
Hidden nights, filled with spite
Left me numb in my left leg
But that’s life- I never wanted to be anyone’s wife.
Even breath, even life
People throw these things away
Even breath, even dreams,
More than this you’ll sacrifice just to stay.
You gotta move now, nothing is real
Into the woods now, we’ll make a deal
In the footprints of a runaway, you’ll find gold.
In the footprints of a runaway, you’ll find gold.
Why are you still talking to me?
Take this fucking eggs away
Black inside, black inside
So many things you have to hide just to stay.
You gotta move now, nothing is real
Into the woods now, we’ll make a deal
In the footprints of a runaway, you’ll find gold.
In the footprints of a runaway, you’ll find gold.
Grey figures surround me now
Dangling there by a string.
Soft voices slip under the door
To talk about everything.
Shadows of the leaves at night
Things we’ll never rise above
Plants upon the window pane
All the simple things I came here to love.
You gotta move now, nothing is real
Into the woods now, we’ll make a deal
In the footprints of a runaway, you’ll find gold.
In the footprints of a runaway, you’ll find gold.
